Schedule of Events 

8 Oct 2009      Thursday    1500-1900      Initial Check In/ Reception at the Bliss Mansion.

We'll have the 4 unoccupied city streets that surround the .8 acre Bliss Mansion ground, as well as some driveway (10 cars or so) parking on the grounds of the mansion, so there will be plenty of time to start the car/war stories, lubricated by a keg of draft beer, wine, soft drinks and some appetizers/snacks

                                            1900-?            Dinner/drinks 

Short walk or even shorter drive to some of Carson City's nice restaurants  (Garibaldi's (N. Italian); Red's (American, (ribs, chili, pizza, 30+ beers on tap);  Firkin and Fox (English Pub with 20+ beers on tap); Basil, and others.  People can also eat/gamble drink at any of the 4 downtown Carson City casinos (smallish, but very friendly)

 

9 Oct 2009      Friday         1000-1430      More formal car show

 

                                            1430-1630      Mountain Drive/Trip to Downtown Reno

62 mile un-crowded mountain roads drive along the eastern side of Lake Tahoe, through Incline Village, NV over the mountain pass at Mount Rose, then north to the National Automobile Museum in Reno.

               

                                            1630-1830      Private tours of the National Auto Museum,

Museum is located on the south bank of the Truckee River, just across Lake Street from the Siena Casino/Hotel

 

                                            1830-1900      Happy Half Hour at a pay as you go bar inside the Auto Museum.  We will have the Museum to ourselves from 1730-2100.

 

                                            1900-2100      Catered Dinner in the large assembly room inside the Auto Museum (various historic cars will surround the drinking/dining area)

 

                                            2100-?            Easy 35 minute Drive back to Carson City for those staying in Carson City; some people may choose to stay at the Siena Hotel; some may choose to go to some of the other (larger than Carson City) casinos that are located in downtown Reno

 

10 Oct 2009    Saturday     0930-1400      Self Guided Tours of Carson City

(US Mint, Capitol Building, walk around the small historic district)  Parking around the mansion; snacks/drinks on the Mansion Veranda.    In case of rain on Friday, this would be an alternate time for the "more formal car show" and/or a makeup car event for those unfortunates who had to drive to Carson City on Saturday morning or Friday evening.

                                            1400-1800      30 minute (one-way) dry Mountains Drive

Drive to/from and tour of Virginia City and see the cowboys/cowgirls/miners all dressed up and dancing in the Bucket of Blood Saloon with their spurs, 6 guns, derringers, and Bowie knives

                        OR

                                            1400-1800      30 minute (one-way) green Mountains Drive

Drive to/from Zephyr Cove, NV, park beside the lake and take a 2 hour east-west narrated cruise across Lake Tahoe/Emerald Bay on the MS Dixie

                         AND

                                             1900-2130     Happy Hour and Catered Dinner/Auction/Awards at a Carson City Casino (to be determined); event to include selection of the following year's event and volunteers to host same.

 

11 Oct 2009    Sunday        0930-1200      Wrap up/Breakfast snacks at the Bliss Mansion

 

                Note:  Those hedonists wanting to go to Virginia City AND cruise on Lake Tahoe - I recommend that you go to Virginia City on Saturday and cruise on Lake Tahoe late Sunday Morning or early Sunday Afternoon.  The Bucket of Blood is much more active on Saturday afternoon...
